Green Building

How much money do you spend every month on paying rent for a home or business? $200? $400? $1000 or more? Renting (or leasing) a home or business will usually end up costing you as much as it would to purchase the building within a period of five to ten years! When it gets right down to it, owning your home is much better than renting, though many of us cannot afford to purchase a new home. So what do we do (in addition to finding a loan that suits our personal financial situation)? Start saving money on all these bills (like food, water, electricity, transportation, heating and cooling, etc.) so one can afford to purchase a home. Better yet, use these savings to purchase land so as to design and/or build your own natural, earth friendly home.

EARTHEN HOMES

"Earthen Home" is actually an umbrella term used to refer to green buildings that are either made of earthen materials (i.e., cob, mud bricks, rammed earth, adobe, dirt, straw bales and mud, stone, etc.), and/or are partially or completely built underground. Many green homes are built with passive heating and cooling, grey water recycling, solar lighting and other natural building techniques incorporated into the design.

Also, the building materials used in green architecture are usually not only much cheaper (and in many cases stronger and more durable) than the traditional building materials, but are also readily available, biodegradable and earth friendly. People have been building earthen homes for hundreds of years, most of which have stood up to the tests of time (and are still standing today). These and similar alternative construction methods are certainly not new, but are still unknown to some and disregarded by others ...
